Sandy and Winterstorm Athena Update
11/08/2012 – 18:00:00 PM EDT

As regional cleanup efforts progress, Level 3’s network and facilities continue to operate normally in the wake of the recent storms along the East Coast of the U.S. Through the course of the storms, Level 3 experienced no major service disruptions, due in part to extensive preparation in advance of the storms, the work of its technical service crews who continuously monitored Level 3’s equipment and facilities, and the company’s naturally resilient network infrastructure.  We would like to take a moment to thank our dedicated employees in the region who worked long hours in spite of the impact the storm may have had on their own families.

Superstorm Sandy Update
11/02/2012 – 17:30:00 EDT

Level 3 continues to monitor its facilities, equipment and network traffic in the areas affected by the storm on the East Coast. The company has teams of engineers on duty around the clock to address any potential incidents and to ensure customers’ network services remain online.

Level 3 has not experienced any major service disruption as a result of the storm, but has rerouted network traffic in select areas where necessary to ensure service continuity. Still being mindful of the safety of our employees and government closures in the area, our team continues to make progress resolving a few minor isolated incidents, as affected areas become increasingly accessible through regional cleanup efforts. We remain confident that the extensive preparation work we undertook prior to the storm and the natural resiliency of our redundant network infrastructure will help ensure business continuity for our customers and assist in resolving any issue as quickly as possible.

Level 3 Communications is actively monitoring Hurricane Sandy’s progress along the Eastern Coastal Region and is aggressively ensuring all systems are well-prepared. Current weather predictions estimate Hurricane Sandy has a northwesterly trajectory towards the North Eastern Coastal region and is expected to make land fall between Washington, D.C. and Boston, Mass. this evening, Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 as a Category 1 hurricane.

Level 3 has a team of dedicated technical engineers that are aggressively working around the clock through the course of the storm to ensure service continuity for our customers. We have taken steps to confirm that our back-up systems, emergency generators and UPS batteries are in place in the event that commercial power becomes unavailable. We are prepared to run on fuel and battery resources indefinitely so long as refueling resources are available to us. We are also cooperating with government closures in the area, which may delay our network repair response times.

At this time, we are continuing our established communications with local, state and federal offices of emergency management to provide close coordination and timely information.

This communication is not intended to be a complete list of all of Level 3′s preparation activities, but is representative of the steps we have taken to prepare for any extreme weather conditions in the East Coast Region.

Please contact your company representative directly or our customer service line at 877-4LEVEL3 if you experience any service issues.
